The History of the Sandwich
According to legend, it was a certain Lord Sandwich who would have given his name to the famous snack. Let's make then a backwards zoom through History, to the creation of this well-lined snack.
We are in England in the year 1762. Sir John Montagu, 4th. Count of Sandwich is at that time a very influential person in the British isles, as he is the Admiral of the Royal Fleet (Captain Cook will even name the Hawaiian islands as Sandwich Isles in is honor). His weakness was Cards, the Navigator is in fact known as a inveterate gambler.
One Day, at a pub, the card game becomes fierce and our hero cannot bring himself to leave the gaming table. As he was nevertheless ravenous, he ask the pub's cook to bring him a snack. The latter does so,handing him cold meat and cheese between to slices of bread. The Admiral did not then even get his fingers dirty, and was able to remain there, entirely focused on his game.
